Live totals come from each page’s pagination total. Price summaries use 44 unique starting-price values per page from the first 48 listings, sorted by rating; they are not a random sample. p25–p75 denotes the interquartile range. The downloadable CSV contains sitemap leaf counts and mapping methods; this live-price table is separate.

Market context: fewer buyers, higher spending

Fiverr reported 2.7 million annual active buyers, down 21.9% year over year (about 22%), and $368 annual spend per buyer, up 15.6%, in Q2 2026. Source: Fiverr Q2 2026 results (July 29, 2026 Form 6-K, Exhibit 99.1).

In its Q2 2026 prepared remarks, Fiverr said transaction volume fell 10% or more year over year across the majority of projects under $1,000 on a trailing twelve-month basis. Source: Fiverr prepared remarks, page 7. This is management commentary, separate from the census.

Upwork reported 763,000 active clients, down 4%, and $5,230 GSV per active client, up 5%, in Q2 2026. Source: Upwork Q2 2026 results (August 10, 2026 Form 8-K).

On its Q4 2025 earnings call, Upwork management described shrinking small, transactional contracts below about $300. Source: Q4 2025 call transcript (secondary source). The call commentary is not a filed category-level contraction estimate.

Supply counts, buyer counts and spending measure different things. Neither platform discloses category-level gross merchandise or services volume in these sources; this census cannot establish which categories earn the most or why demand changes.

Method and limits

Coverage. We counted 282,099 gig URLs across all 7 child files of Fiverr’s public gig sitemap on October 19, 2026. This is a snapshot of sitemap supply, not a census of sellers, buyers, transactions or all live services.

Leaf classification. Each sitemap image caption follows the pattern “<Leaf> example made by <user>”. We used that label to classify gigs into 300 leaves, then mapped leaves to top-level categories: 137 by category-sitemap slug match, 44 by category-page evidence and 115 by majority vote of the video-category field. Four leaves containing 16 gigs remain unmapped.

Mapping uncertainty. Video-category agreement was at least 80% for all but one voted leaf. “Other” contains 3,577 gigs and is assigned to Programming & Tech with only 195 of 582 votes in agreement; treat that bucket as noise. The CSV retains the mapping method for each leaf.

Sitemap versus live supply. Across the 44 observed design pages, sitemap counts were between 1.8% and 17% of live counts, with a median of 9.9%. Consumer gift and art categories were under-represented by roughly 3–5 times relative to B2B design. The 32.9% design share describes the sitemap; it should not be read as the live marketplace’s share.

Missing live pages. 255 of 299 subcategory pages were not fetched. Live counts and price observations cover only 44 Graphics & Design pages; no live-count or price estimate is supplied for the missing pages.

Provenance. The census and live snapshot were collected for Upworker AI’s October 19, 2026 gig-market demand study. This page reproduces the leaf-count CSV and the supply report’s live-count table.
